Author of the Month
Daniel Pinkwater
Mr. Pinkwater was our September Author of the
Month. He has a great sense of humor.  Our class
has discovered some common traits in his books.
1. Characters have interesting names,ie.Mr.
    Plumbean,the Popsnorkles.
2. The pictures are usually done in watercolors.
    They have few details.
3. Mr. Pinkwater puts himself into many of his
   stories.

Gail Gibbons was our October Author of the  Month.
She is a writer of non-fiction. Ms. Gibbons has written many books about things that we are very interested about.. From spiders to bats, from lighthouses to librarians, Ms. Gibbons  helps us to explore the world around us. The illustrations are simple yet help us understand key concepts. The vocabulary is challenging but Ms. Gibbons has a Glossary in the back as well as a list of many projects we can do.

November Author of the Month
Joseph Bruchac

This month we have begun to listen to Native American Legends as told by Joseph Bruchac. You can read more about Mr. Bruchac by clicking onto the Author's Link button on this page.

Native American Legends were told as a way to explain the physical world Native Americans lived in. Many times there was also a moral lesson taught. For example, in the story, The Strawberries, we learn how strawberries came into the world. However it is also a lesson in how we should talk to each other and the power of words.

I recommend getting one of Joseph Bruchac's books from the library and reading it to your child.
