Text Box: Poetry, Soil and Place Value!

Writers Workshop:

We started a unit on revision and editing a few weeks ago. We learned how to use editing and revising pens and when to revise and when to edit. We are putting our small moments aside for a few weeks and focus on poetry. This way we can come back to editing with a fresh perspective.  In the poetry unit so far, we have looked at voice and onomatopoeia.

Math:

We have been working on many different units of measure. We have explored our standard units as well as the metric units. Ms. And Mrs. Gallon have gone home and students saw how many cups actually fit in one gallon! Students should continue to practice using rulers and other measuring tools at home. Please keep showing them how measurement is used everywhere we go! We will be starting Unit 10 soon. It will mainly be an exploration of place value.

Text Box: Science: Soil is our next unit of study. This week we thought hard about what we already knew about soil and what is found in soil. Our worms will be arriving soon and Mrs. Ludwig will be visiting our class next week for a composting lesson. We can’t wait to get our hands dirty!!!

Reading:
We just did a comparison of two versions of Hansel and Gretel. We went to see the opera and compared it to our Hansel and Gretel with a Twist! In Scott Foresman we will be practicing using graphic sources and finding the main idea of a story. In our small group lessons we continue to work on using the comprehension strategies of picturing, noticing, wondering, connecting and figuring out. Students are also working on talking about the books they read.
