  • The Caldecott Medal
    Awarded annually by the American Library Association to the illustrator of the most distinguished picture book published in America.

  • The Newbery Medal
    Awarded annually by the American Library Association to the author of the book that is the most signficant contribution to children's literature.

  • The Coretta Scott King Award
    Awarded annually by the American Library Association to an African-American author and an African-American illustrator for their outstanding contributions to children's literature.

  • The Pura Belpré Award
    Awarded annually by the American Library Association to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work "best celebrates and portrays the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children."











  • The Laura Ingalls Wilder Award
    This award, in honor of Laura Ingalls Wilder, is presented by the American Library Association to an author or illustrator "whose books, published in the United States, have made, over a period of years, a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children."
  • The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal
  • This American Library Association medal is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished informational book published in English.
